What could change Barclays’ dividend?
The current programme combines distributions with other capital choices. Barclays bought a 999-year leasehold interest in One Churchill Place for £750m and announced a £1,000m buyback. It plans to distribute more than £15bn during 2026–2028, including a planned £2bn dividend for 2026. In 2025, subordinated-debt issuance of £1,772m exceeded redemptions of £727m.
The forecast would move toward the bear case if weaker markets or consumer credit raised impairments during 2027–28. Costs remaining above plan, or the cost-to-income ratio failing to reach the low 50s, would reduce RoTE. Higher risk-weighted assets or redress through 2029 would consume capital and constrain buybacks.

What is Barclays’ dividend yield against its share price?
The shares have delivered strong long-term gains while falling sharply over the latest period. Those are share-price returns rather than total returns, because dividends are excluded. The current price also sits between a 52-week high and low, showing that the recovery has not removed volatility.
