FOX dividend: payment and cash coverage
MyStockButler's October 2026 analysis: FOX pays $0.58 per share at the latest annualized rate, after raising its semiannual dividend to $0.29 per share. Its cash coverage is strained because free cash flow fell to $1,468 million and distributions exceeded free cash flow in fiscal 2026.
How much does FOX pay its shareholders?

Buybacks dominated the distributions. In August 2025, Fox’s board added $5 billion to its repurchase authorisation, which permits purchases but does not require them. Fox then carried out an accelerated repurchase, receiving most shares immediately and the final deliveries in February and March 2026. In August 2026, it also raised its semiannual dividend to $0.29 per share. These payments benefit shareholders directly, but a buyback creates value only when Fox buys shares below the value of the future earnings they represent.
The dividend starts at $0.58 per share, matching the latest annualized rate. The base case reaches $0.62 through roughly 3% annual increases, below the historical pace of $0.02 per year. The bear case stays flat because free cash flow fell to $1,468 million, while the bull case reaches $0.72 if Roku and streaming improve cash generation.

Is FOX’s dividend covered by its cash?
Free cash flow is the cash left after ordinary operations and capital spending, such as equipment and facilities. It is the pool available for later choices, not the same thing as accounting profit. Across fiscal 2022–2026, Fox directed most of that pool to dividends and share buybacks, leaving relatively little for acquisitions, investment purchases or strengthening the balance sheet.
The annual pattern was uneven. Fox generated more free cash flow than it distributed in fiscal 2025, but distributions exceeded free cash flow in fiscal 2026 and also did so in fiscal 2023. Fox can cover such a gap with saved cash, borrowing or asset sales, but it cannot repeat the pattern indefinitely without reducing financial flexibility.

What this means. In June 2026, the company paid shareholders more cash than it generated, so it had to use savings or borrow money.
What could change FOX’s dividend?
FOX has no formal company-wide earnings forecast cadence. For fiscal 2027, guidance calls for $1,000–$1,500 million of buybacks and $245 million of dividends. For Roku, management expects $400 million of annual cost savings and free-cash-flow accretion within two years of closing.
