What has Costco guided for fiscal 2027?

Capital expenditures are money spent on long-lived assets such as buildings and equipment. For fiscal 2027, Costco plans approximately US$7,500 million of such spending. It also plans up to 33 warehouse openings, including five relocations.

Did Costco keep its past promises?

The final test is delivery. Costco planned up to 35 warehouse openings in fiscal 2026, including five relocations, and capital spending of US$6.0–6.5 billion. It opened 28 warehouses, including three relocations, while spending approximately US$6.4 billion. It stayed within its spending plan but missed the upper opening target. At the same time, it documented member savings such as cutting walnuts from $13.79 to $9.99.

What did Costco report in the last eight quarters?

Costco’s final FY2026 quarter showed continuing growth, with temporary tariff assistance making earnings look somewhat stronger. Profit grew faster than revenue even though the rounded gross margin slipped, directing attention to expenses, membership income and tax.

What should Costco watchers look for next?

The next quarterly results should show whether warehouse strength continues to offset softer membership-fee growth. Investors should read paid-member growth, renewal rates and fee income together, then check comparable sales after gasoline and currency effects. That combination separates durable demand from temporary assistance.

Finally, investors should track openings through fiscal 2027, debt repayments in May and June, and the credit facility’s August maturity. The strongest outcome would combine successful openings, sustained membership growth and cash generation sufficient to fund both expansion and distributions. If spending rises while openings slip, Costco may still be able to pay its bills, but the promised benefit will be taking longer to arrive.

Costco is a membership retailer that sells goods, fuel and services through large, simple stores and online. Its business rests on a bargain: members pay to enter the system, then Costco tries to make them return often enough for both sides to benefit.
