What has ExxonMobil guided for the year?

“Upstream” means finding and producing oil and gas before they reach a refinery or customer. ExxonMobil guides to 4,900 thousand oil-equivalent barrels per day, including 1,800 thousand from the Permian Basin. Oil-equivalent barrels convert gas into an energy comparison with oil; they do not mean gas sells for the same price. The target is an annual average, so a strong month cannot erase earlier lost production.

Buybacks distribute cash now, while capital spending aims to create future cash. ExxonMobil’s methane-intensity promise measures emissions relative to activity against its 2016 baseline for operated assets; it does not promise an equivalent cut in every absolute emission category.

Has ExxonMobil kept its promises?

Exxon also reported $15.1 billion of structural cost savings by the end of 2025 against a target of approximately $15 billion by 2027. That supports management’s credibility, although savings remain a management-defined measure and earnings still declined as prices weakened.

What do ExxonMobil's last eight quarters show?

The June 2026 quarter delivered a sharp earnings recovery, but prices and accounting timing explain more than production growth. Production fell from 4,630 to 4,514 thousand oil-equivalent barrels a day even as revenue and profit surged.

What should I watch in ExxonMobil's next results?

In the fourth quarter, investors should watch Uaru’s first oil and its operating ramp. Golden Pass LNG, developed with QatarEnergy, also matters: mechanical completion of a processing train means construction has reached a defined stage, not that commissioning, reliable operation or cargo sales have begun.

From the full memo · 1. The business

ExxonMobil is an energy and materials company: it finds oil and gas, turns them into fuels and industrial ingredients, and sells them through a global network. A dollar reaches it when a customer buys one of those products, and leaves it again through the costs of making, moving and renewing the system.
