Smurfit WestRock dividend
MyStockButler's October 2026 analysis: Smurfit WestRock's current quarterly payment is $0.4523 per share. Smurfit WestRock generates cash after investment, but coverage depends on cash conversion and costs that adjusted measures give back.
How much does Smurfit WestRock pay per share?

The dividend holds at the declared annualized rate through October 2027. The base case then increases it modestly, while the bear case cuts it and the bull case raises it faster. The current quarterly payment is $0.4523, and the five-year plan includes about $5 billion of dividends. Cash remains the constraint: nine-month operating cash flow was $1.843 billion against $1.603 billion of capex.

Does Smurfit WestRock's cash cover its dividend?
Cash generation is positive after investment, but management’s adjusted free-cash-flow measure gives some costs back. Operating cash flow exceeded capital spending in 2025, whereas the same gap was much smaller in 2024, when the combined business was not yet shown on the same basis.
Adjusted free cash flow adds back transaction, integration and restructuring costs after tax. Those costs may eventually fade, but they still used money that could otherwise repay debt or reach shareholders. The company also recorded $139 million of share-based compensation in 2025. It was not a cash payment then, but issuing shares dilutes existing owners, so deducting it is a useful economic test.

What could change Smurfit WestRock's dividend?
The key test is whether higher paper and box prices catch up with freight and energy costs during the fourth quarter of 2026 and into 2027. The Chile acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2027, competing for cash with investment, debt service, and dividends. Sustained volume and cash recovery through 2027–2029 would support base-to-bull cases; weak volumes and elevated costs would push the view toward bear. Remember: SW’s scale must become durable cash generation.
