Suncor earnings: guidance, results and what to watch
Suncor's next results are expected on November 3, 2026. Watch whether production recovery survives planned maintenance and delivers the 2026 range.
What has Suncor guided for 2026?
Suncor’s immediate promise is to produce more oil, refine it reliably and stay within its 2026 spending plan. It guides total production of 840,000–870,000 barrels a day, refinery throughput of 460,000–475,000 barrels a day, and capital spending of C$5,600–5,800 million. Upstream means extracting crude; downstream means refining it into fuels. These are full-year averages, so one weak quarter does not break the guidance, but later quarters must make up the difference.
| the period guided | low | high | the date it was given | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Total Production (bbl/d) | 2026 full year | 840,000 | 870,000 | Aug 4, 2026 |
| Refinery Throughput (bbls/d) | 2026 full year | 460,000 | 475,000 | Aug 4, 2026 |
| Capital Guidance – Total (C$ millions) | 2026 full year | 5,600 | 5,800 | Aug 4, 2026 |
Has Suncor kept its past promises?
Management also promised C$3.3 billion of additional normalized annual free funds flow and says it delivered the plan a year early. Free funds flow is cash left after operating costs and capital spending. “Normalized” means the comparison uses an assumed US$75 WTI oil price, helping separate better management from simply higher prices. The measure is useful, but it is company-defined.
What do Suncor's last eight quarters show about revenue and profit?
Suncor’s reported profit combines operating performance with substantial accounting effects. Its adjusted operating income and adjusted EPS both fell in 2025, while a gain from revaluing U.S.-dollar debt sharply improved one quarter without improving oil production.
Q2 2026 improved mainly because prices and refining economics improved, not because production increased. Production fell to 760.9 thousand barrels a day, but the realised price rose to C$129.59 a barrel, more than offsetting fewer barrels.

What should Suncor watch in the next results?
The next test is whether production recovery survives planned maintenance and delivers the 2026 range. September maintenance at Base Plant and a 55-day Syncrude turnaround were already identified. The important evidence will be actual outage length and output against plan, not simply another profitable quarter.
