CK Hutchison earnings: guidance and results
MyStockButler's October 2026 analysis: The latest half-year reported lower revenue and sharply higher net income, with retail EBIT up and Telecom EBIT down. The next release should show whether Ports and Retail maintained their expected direction and clarify the dividend and cash deployment.
What has CK Hutchison guided for 2026?
Ports must prove that today’s activity will not leave tomorrow’s volumes weaker. Customers brought shipments forward to avoid tariffs, which boosts container handling now but may reduce demand later. Management believes its spread of terminals and productivity improvements can sustain growth; global container throughput is expected to rise by 3.0% in 2026. Retail faces a different test: health and beauty sales are expected to grow around 2%, but wages, rents and other costs can consume that progress.
Other commitments make different claims on the group. CK Hutchison expects to contribute HK$741 million to defined benefit pension plans in 2026. Its greenhouse-gas target is a 50.0% reduction by 2035 against 2020. Frank Sixt also said the full-year dividend should reflect underlying earnings growth. Underlying earnings are the recurring results left after specified exceptional items, so the dividend promise points to business performance rather than disposal proceeds.

| Period covered | Low | High | Date given | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Contributions to the defined benefit plans in the coming year (HK$ millions) | Year to Dec 2026 | 741 | 741 | Mar 19, 2026 |
| GHG emissions reduction target (%) | By 2035, versus 2020 baseline | 50.0% | 50.0% | Aug 13, 2026 |
What this means. The emissions goal means cutting the company’s direct and purchased-energy greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2035 compared with 2020, not eliminating all emissions.
Has CK Hutchison kept its past promises?
The company has delivered some identifiable promises. The Vodafone–Three UK merger completed in May 2025, while its annual cost and capital-spending savings remained a fifth-year target. By the end of 2025, integration was ahead of plan in network sharing and on track for that target. Sustainability measures were later embedded in key divisions’ short- and long-term incentives.
What do CK Hutchison’s last eight reported periods show?
For the six months to June 2026, revenue fell 1.9%, but net income jumped from a depressed prior-period base to HK$26,801 million. The contrast says immediately that sales growth cannot explain the result.
| 6 months to Jun 2026 | 6 months to Dec 2025 | 6 months to Jun 2025 | 6 months to Dec 2024 | 6 months to Jun 2024 | 6 months to Dec 2023 | 6 months to Jun 2023 | 6 months to Dec 2022 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | 136,485 | 140,906 | 139,130 | 144,900 | 136,451 | 142,198 | 133,377 | 131,139 |
| Net income | 26,801 | 10,989 | 852 | 6,883 | 10,205 | 12,297 | 11,542 | 17,592 |
| EPS, diluted | 7.00 | 2.87 | 0.22 | 1.80 | 2.66 | 3.21 | 3.01 | 4.59 |
| Book value per share | 151.04 | 146.90 | 144.85 | 139.60 | 140.84 | 142.00 | 140.30 | 136.70 |
What this means. The June book value per share is our calculation because the company does not print that six-month figure, while the December figure is the company’s own number, so small differences may occur.
What should investors watch in CK Hutchison’s next results?
The first clear checkpoint is the year ending 31 December 2026. Full-year results should show whether Ports and Retail maintained their expected direction as demand softened, while also clarifying the dividend and how management will deploy cash after the completed disposals.
