ENGIE dividend: cash coverage, history and yield
MyStockButler's October 2026 analysis: ENGIE’s dividend history is shown per share in the table, while total dividends paid rose to €3,635 million in 2025. Real free cash flow was negative €10.825 billion in 2025, so the dividend was not covered by that cash measure.
How much does ENGIE pay per share?
Distributions continued while that room narrowed. Dividends paid rose from €1,296 million in 2021 to €3,635 million in 2025. The liquidity programme bought and sold the same number of shares, so its gross purchases were not a permanent shareholder payout.
| 2025 | 2024 | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EPS, diluted | 1.51 | 1.65 | 0.88 | -0.84 | 1.42 |
| Real free cash flow per share | -4.43 | 0.60 | 1.75 | 0.29 | -0.20 |
| − Dividends paid, per share | 1.49 | 1.44 | 1.41 | 0.86 | 0.53 |
| − Share buybacks, per share | 0.23 | 0.25 | 0.17 | 0.07 | 0.06 |
What this means. The company's own free cash flow per share is much higher because it subtracts only maintenance spending and nuclear funding, while our count subtracts all equipment and intangible spending.
How much would ENGIE's dividend pay you?
€10,000 invested in ENGIE at its 5.8% dividend yield (our report of October 26, 2026) pays €580.00 in the first year, before tax. If its dividend per share keeps changing 29.5% a year, as it did from 2021 to 2025, and the dividends are reinvested, year 10 pays €29,545.13, with €69,319.93 received in all.
Before tax. Past dividend growth is not a promise. Information only, not investment advice.
Is ENGIE’s dividend covered by its cash?
The broader calculation then deducts €7.27 billion of capital spending. It also deducts €458 million of lease payments and €1.512 billion of interest paid, producing free cash flow of negative €10.713 billion. After €112 million of stock compensation, real free cash flow was negative €10.825 billion.
ENGIE’s own free-cash-flow count was positive €2.5 billion because it deducts maintenance and nuclear funding while leaving growth investment outside that measure. Maintenance capex was €2.681 billion; growth capex was €5.264 billion. The specialist therefore asks whether operations fund unavoidable demands before asking whether new investment will earn its cost.
| 2025 | 2024 | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free cash flow | -10,713 | 1,566 | 4,313 | 786 | -442 |
| − Dividends paid | 3,635 | 3,503 | 3,427 | 2,082 | 1,296 |
| − Share buybacks | 564.4 | 599.9 | 409.7 | 180.2 | 146.8 |
| = Paid out more than the free cash flow | 15,629.4 | 3,163.9 | 45.7 | ||
| = Cash fell by | 2,421 |
What this means. The company's own net debt is higher because it also includes leases and certain financial items that our simpler calculation leaves out.
What could change ENGIE’s dividend?
Management guides to €4.9–€5.5 billion of net recurring income in 2026 and the same range in 2027 despite higher expected operating profit. Its dividend policy pays 65–75% of recurring income, with a €1.10-per-share floor. Project-return targets are forecasts at approval; realised cash returns must exceed funding costs.
The view would move toward the bear case in 2027–2028 if B2B and energy-management earnings continue to fade. Higher interest costs, weak free cash flow or renewed equity funding during 2027–2029 would pressure dividends, dilution and the P/E.
