Chubb earnings: date, guidance and what to watch
Chubb's next results are expected on October 20, 2026. Watch casualty pricing against loss costs.
What has Chubb guided for the year?
Recent results support the ambition. In the first half of 2026, annualized core ROE and core ROTE were already above management’s thresholds. Annualized means expressing a shorter period as a yearly rate; it does not mean the remaining quarters have been earned. Evan Greenberg also said his outlook for potentially double-digit EPS growth was not guidance, especially as insurance markets softened.
Chubb’s investment and automation plans are meant to support those returns. Private investments are intended to produce substantial annual operating income, including a separate yield from its Strategic Holdings Partnership with investment firm KKR; those amounts should not be added together. Private investments are also planned to become a larger share of the portfolio. Automation is intended to reduce headcount and recurring expenses. A combined ratio measures claims and expenses against earned premiums: below 100% means underwriting profit before investment income.
| Period covered | Low | High | Date given | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core ROE | Medium term | 14.0% | Dec 8, 2025 | |
| Core ROTE | Medium term | 20.0% | Dec 8, 2025 | |
| Annual operating income from private investments | Medium term | 2,000 | 2,000 | Dec 8, 2025 |
| Strategic Holdings Partnership annual yield | Medium term | 1,000 | 1,000 | Dec 8, 2025 |
| Circa headcount reduction | Three to four years | 20.0% | 20.0% | Dec 8, 2025 |
| Run-rate expense savings (combined ratio points) | Three to four years | 1.5 | 1.5 | Dec 8, 2025 |
What this means. The share repurchase authorization is permission to buy back up to US$7,500 million of shares, not a promise that the company will spend it.
What has Chubb's recent results shown?
Q2 2026 showed strong operating performance, but the headline numbers benefited from easier comparisons and lower catastrophe losses.
Core operating income rose 14.6% to $2,842 million, while net income fell to $2,854 million. The prior-year quarter contained larger realized investment gains, so reported net income gives a less favorable comparison than recurring operations.
