Chubb dividend: payment, coverage and yield
Chubb pays $1.02 per quarter, or $4.08 annually. Its adjusted operating cash flow was $13,906 million in 2025, covering the dividend while leaving cash for buybacks and capital kept in the business.
How much does Chubb pay per share over time?
The current quarterly dividend is $1.02. The base case produces $4.18 per share in October 2027, then $4.38 and $4.58. The bear path gives $4.08, then $4.16 and $4.24. The bull path gives $4.22, then $4.50 and $4.78.
The base repeats a measured annual increase, consistent with dividends rising from $3.18 in 2021 to $3.82 in 2025. The approved 2026 annual dividend is $4.08, but it is not a multi-year commitment.
| 2025 | 2024 | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EPS, diluted | 25.68 | 22.70 | 21.80 | 12.39 | 19.24 |
| − Dividends, per share | 3.79 | 3.56 | 3.38 | 3.26 | 3.14 |
| − Share buybacks, per share | 9.20 | 4.41 | 5.82 | 6.83 | 10.97 |
| = Kept, per share | 12.69 | 14.73 | 12.59 | 2.30 | 5.13 |
What this means. Share buybacks do not add profit to each share; they reduce the number of shares, so each remaining share owns a larger slice of the business.
Is Chubb’s dividend covered by its cash?
Cash flow adds another test. Adjusted operating cash flow fell to $13,906 million in 2025 despite higher earnings. The $158 million adverse development in corporate run-off reserves in Q2 2026 shows why older liabilities can still consume capital.
Retained earnings are accumulated accounting profit, not a separate bank account. Chubb must keep capital invested and available because claims can arrive years after premiums are collected. A hurricane can create billions of dollars of losses suddenly, while capital also allows the company to write new policies.
| 2025 | 2024 | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Net income | 10,310 | 9,272 | 9,028 | 5,246 | 8,525 |
| = Earnings for common shareholders | 10,310 | 9,272 | 9,028 | 5,246 | 8,525 |
| − Dividends declared on common shares | 1,520 | 1,455 | 1,401 | 1,379 | 1,392 |
| − Share buybacks | 3,694 | 1,801 | 2,411 | 2,894 | 4,861 |
| = Kept to grow and build capital | 5,096 | 6,016 | 5,216 | 973 | 2,272 |
What this means. The paid out percentage includes both dividends and share buybacks, so it shows all cash returned to shareholders, not just dividends.
What could change Chubb’s dividend?
In May 2026, Chubb authorized up to $7.5 billion of repurchases. The authorization began July 1 and has no expiration. Shareholders approved an annual dividend of up to $4.08 per share, although the board can choose whether to distribute each installment. Chubb also issued $2.2 billion of debt, with proceeds available for repayment and refinancing. The real question is whether retained capital earns enough to justify keeping it, and whether returned capital was genuinely surplus.
What is Chubb’s dividend yield against its price?
| Today (Oct 15, 2026) | |
|---|---|
| Share price | 350.15 |
| Market value (calculated) | 135,087.82 |
| Dividend yield (calculated) | 1.2% |
What this means. The price-to-earnings numbers show how many dollars investors pay for each dollar of the company's profit, so a lower number generally means the shares are cheaper relative to profit.
