What has to go right for Tyson’s forecast, and what could go wrong?
Fourth-quarter and full-year results scheduled for November 16, 2026 will test the reduced fiscal 2026 outlook. In fiscal 2027, Beef closures and network changes must reduce losses while Chicken and Prepared Foods support group earnings. Through fiscal 2028–2029, sustained Beef improvement, durable Chicken margins and free cash flow after legal payments, investment and shareholder distributions decide the outcome.
How much cash does Tyson really make?
Stock compensation is another shareholder cost. Shares issued to employees can dilute owners even when no cash leaves the company immediately. The dividend exceeded reported EPS in fiscal 2025, so dividend safety depends on cash after necessary investment, not earnings alone.
| Sep 2025 | Sep 2024 | Sep 2023 | Oct 2022 | Oct 2021 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| = Free cash flow | 1,177 | 1,458 | -187 | 800 | 2,631 |
| − Stock pay | 100 | 101 | 61 | 93 | 91 |
| = Real free cash flow | 1,077 | 1,357 | -248 | 707 | 2,540 |
| Free cash flow, % of revenue | 2.2% | 2.7% | -0.4% | 1.5% | 5.6% |
| Real free cash flow, % of revenue | 2.0% | 2.5% | -0.5% | 1.3% | 5.4% |
What this means. Stock pay uses no cash today, but it gives employees part of the company, so we subtract its value to show what is truly left for shareholders.
What does an investor pay for Tyson today?
Market value measures the shareholders’ slice of Tyson. Enterprise value estimates the operating business before lenders’ claims are settled, so it adds total debt to market value and subtracts cash. Like a house with a mortgage, the whole property is worth more than the owner’s equity. Lenders receive interest and repayment first; Tyson reported $449 million of interest expense in fiscal 2025.
| Today (Oct 23, 2026) | |
|---|---|
| Share price | 56.70 |
| Market value (calculated) | 19,947.15 |
| Enterprise value (calculated) | 27,213.15 |
| P/E, last 12 months (calculated) | 35.0x |
| P/E, next 12 months (calculated) | 14.2x |
| Real free cash flow yield (calculated) | 5.4% |
What this means. The next-year price-to-earnings ratio is much lower because it uses analysts’ expected profit, not profit the company has already earned.
