Eaton dividend: cash coverage and yield
Eaton paid $1.626 billion in dividends in 2025 against US$3,553 million of free cash flow. That left the dividend covered by the cash Eaton generated, although buybacks also used cash.
How much does Eaton pay its shareholders over time?
Shareholders received the largest recurring allocation. Dividends rose from $1.219 billion in 2021 to $1.626 billion in 2025. Buybacks then reached $2.492 billion in 2024 and $1.862 billion in 2025. Dividends and buybacks consumed 113.4% of free cash flow in 2024 and 98.2% in 2025. That leaves little cash for acquisitions, debt repayment or unexpected needs, and a buyback creates value only if Eaton buys shares at a sensible price.

What this means. The company's own free cash flow per share is higher because it does not subtract the value of shares given to employees as pay, while our count does.
Does Eaton’s cash cover its dividend?
Cash from operations was US$4,472 million in 2025. Capital spending was US$919 million, leaving US$3,553 million of free cash flow. That was only slightly above 2024’s US$3,519 million despite revenue growth.

What could change Eaton’s dividend?
Dividends rise from the current $4.40 annualized rate to $4.58 in the base case’s first window and $5.13 in the last. The bear case holds at $4.40 because debt and cash demands discourage increases. The bull case reaches $5.77 through roughly 10% annual increases. The base follows the latest 6% increase and Eaton’s record of uninterrupted annual dividend growth.

What is Eaton’s dividend yield against its price?
Financing adds another hurdle. Net interest expense was $201 million in the second quarter of 2026, compared with $71 million a year earlier. Eaton’s current ratio was approximately 1.24x, but inventory and receivables cannot be spent as readily as cash. A 1.0% dividend yield likewise says little about the cash needed for factories or acquisitions.
