What has Chipotle guided for 2026?

Management guidance is the company’s own forecast. On July 29, 2026, Chipotle raised its full-year comparable-sales outlook from roughly flat to low-single-digit growth. Comparable sales measure restaurants open for at least 13 full calendar months, so new locations cannot improve the figure simply by opening.

Capital expenditure, or capex, is spending on assets that last for years, such as buildings, kitchens, equipment and technology. Chipotle’s 2026 capex budget is US$834.1 million. New restaurant construction receives US$531.8 million, while existing restaurants receive US$266.9 million.

Did Chipotle keep its past promises?

Chipotle initially forecast 315–345 company-owned openings for 2025 and delivered 334. Yet established-restaurant sales declined that year. The result shows why opening targets cannot replace a broader performance test. Retention awards granted during the 2024 transition can also continue creating expense during later vesting periods.

What has Chipotle's revenue and profit done?

Revenue reached 3,348,562 in June 2026. That was 9.3% above 3,063,393 a year earlier. Comps rose 2.2%; transactions increased 1.0%, while average check rose 1.2%. Chipotle opened 100 company-owned restaurants, including 80 with a Chipotlane.

Profit moved in the opposite direction. Operating income fell from 559,057 in June 2025 to 525,595 in June 2026. Net income fell from 436,127 to 403,547. Diluted EPS remained 0.32 because fewer shares spread the lower earnings across fewer owners.

What this means. Gross margin is not the company’s final profit because it leaves out the cost of wear and tear on equipment and corporate expenses.

From the full memo · 1. The business

Chipotle Mexican Grill is a restaurant business that turns a small set of ingredients into meals chosen one customer at a time. Its economics are equally simple to picture: people pay for food and convenience, while Chipotle pays to buy, prepare, deliver and support that food, and keeps what remains.
