What has Ciena guided for fiscal 2026?

Revenue guidance rose at each of the first three fiscal 2026 results reports. The immediate test is fiscal Q4, when management expects $1.700–$1.800 billion of revenue. But an order is not revenue: Ciena must obtain components, have contract manufacturers assemble and test the equipment, and then ship it. Until delivery, the order remains backlog. Ciena says some materials come from sole or limited-source suppliers and that it relies on a small number of contract manufacturers, so supply can restrict sales even when customers are ready to buy.

Profitability is meant to rise with scale. Fiscal 2026 adjusted operating margin is guided to 20.0%–21.0%, while fiscal 2027 revenue should reach at least $8.300 billion and adjusted operating margin 25.0%–27.0%. Gross margin measures what remains after making the product; operating margin also subtracts research, sales and administration. “Adjusted” excludes selected charges such as share-based compensation, so it is not the same as standard-accounting profit.

What this means. Some figures with no high number are minimum targets, not exact forecasts, so the actual results could be higher.

Did Ciena keep its past promises?

Ciena did deliver against its fiscal 2025 promises. In December 2024, management forecast revenue growth of 8%–11% and adjusted gross margin of 42%–44%. Actual revenue growth was 18.8%, while adjusted gross margin was 42.7%. Stronger customer spending helped, so the result shows delivery without proving that management alone caused it.

What has Ciena's revenue and profit trend been over the last eight quarters?

For the quarter ended August 1, 2026, revenue was 1,671,129. A year earlier it was 1,219,385, so growth was 37.0%. Gross margin rose from 41.3% to 45.4%. Operating income rose from 73,535 to 301,179.

Net income reached 266,418, compared with 50,308 a year earlier. Diluted EPS was 1.83, compared with 0.35. The improvement also exceeded the preceding quarters, which points to an operating turn rather than only a rebound from the impaired final quarter of 2025.

What this means. The November 2025 profit is unusual because it includes a large one-time write-off and tax benefit, so it does not show what the business normally earns.
