AstraZeneca earnings: guidance and what to watch
AstraZeneca's next results are expected on October 30, 2026. Watch whether newer medicines replace revenue lost when older products lose exclusivity.
What has AstraZeneca guided for 2026?
Its 2026 outlook says earnings per share should grow faster than revenue. “Core” earnings are management’s adjusted view of ordinary performance; reported earnings include costs such as acquired-asset write-downs and certain legal charges. Constant-currency growth holds exchange rates steady, so currency movements do not disguise changes in demand.
The longer promise is at least 20 new medicines and $80 billion in annual revenue by 2030. Starting from 2025 revenue of $58.739 billion, that requires about 6.4% yearly growth. Etcamah was the eleventh medicine counted toward the launch ambition, but an approval is only permission to sell. Patients must be identified, treated and reimbursed before a launch becomes substantial revenue.

Has AstraZeneca kept its past promises?
AstraZeneca promised annual revenue above $45 billion by 2023 while defending its independence during Pfizer’s takeover approach. It delivered $45.811 billion in 2023, although the result included Alexion. The newer ambition is $80 billion of revenue by 2030, adjusted for development risk and not dependent on future acquisitions. That makes the next test more revealing.
How have AstraZeneca's revenue and profit changed?
Revenue rose 6.4% to $15,384 million. Gross margin improved from 82.9% to 83.6%, so the pressure appeared below gross profit. Operating income fell from $3,508 million to $3,164 million, as higher research and administrative spending and $345 million of development-asset impairments weighed on the quarter.
Net income still rose to $2,507 million, while diluted EPS reached $1.61. The reported tax rate fell to about 10% from about 22%, which helped offset the weaker operating result. Core operating income improved, so the quarter contains both commercial progress and weaker reported expense performance.
