Does Amgen's cash cover its dividend?

Stock compensation also belongs in the economic calculation. Amgen added back $494 million of stock pay in operating cash flow because issuing shares is not an immediate cash payment. Deducting it gives real free cash flow of $7,606 million, or 20.7% of revenue. That remains substantial, but it was below the $8,040 million achieved in 2021.

Horizon changed the financing scale. In 2023, Amgen spent $26,989 million on acquisitions and raised $27,777 million through debt issuance. Afterward, buybacks largely stopped; Amgen spent $200 million on them in 2024, while dividends reached $5,124 million in 2025. Net debt fell to $45,475 million in 2025 from $53,669 million in 2023, but remained above its 2021 level.

What could change Amgen's dividend?

The forecast would move toward the bear case if faster denosumab switching reduced revenue and margins during 2027–2029, or if weaker cash flow slowed debt reduction and buybacks.
