Where could Arch's shares go?
The forecast sees limited near-term upside, followed by a possible recovery. The probability-weighted price is $90.31 in October 2027, $98.28 in October 2028 and $110.49 in October 2029, equal to returns including dividends of negative 10%, negative 2% and positive 10% from today’s $100.48. How much cash does Arch really make?
Cash generation was strong. Operating cash flow reached $6,172 million in 2025, about 140% of net income, while fixed-asset purchases were only $44 million. But an insurer’s main reinvestment is not machinery. It is the financial capital and investments needed to pay claims.
| 2025 | 2024 | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Net premiums earned | 17,065 | 15,100 | 12,440 | 9,679 | 8,082 |
| Underwriting income | 2,933 | 2,661 | 2,612 | 1,796 | 1,216 |
| Net investment income | 1,625 | 1,495 | 1,023 | 496 | 389 |
| Core earnings (company's measure) | 3,700 | 3,542 | 3,201 | 1,840 | 1,435 |
| Net income | 4,399 | 4,312 | 4,443 | 1,476 | 2,157 |
What this means. The company's core earnings are its own definition of ongoing profit, so they can differ from net income and are not directly comparable without checking what they include.
What does an investor pay for Arch today?
Arch looks inexpensive on reported earnings, but that first impression depends on which earnings measure is used. Reported net income includes investment gains and losses, foreign-exchange movements and transaction costs. Arch’s “after-tax operating income” removes selected items that management views as non-recurring, but it still includes catastrophes and changes in claims estimates. Forward earnings are forecasts, not accounting facts. In the second quarter of 2026, reported net income available to common shareholders was $1.047 billion, compared with $893 million of adjusted operating profit. The question is whether the adjustments and forecast describe a normal year.
