What has to go right, and what could go wrong for Xiaomi?
The bear case uses revenue of CNY470 billion, CNY480 billion and CNY500 billion, with margins of 3.2%, 3.0% and 3.2%. Smartphone margin had fallen to 8.5% in the June quarter, while the combined EV, AI and new-initiatives segment reported a CNY5.7 billion first-half operating loss. The bull case uses CNY530 billion, CNY620 billion and CNY720 billion of revenue, with margins rising from 7.0% to 9.0%. That requires vehicle scale, stable phone economics and continued high-margin service growth. Internet services had a 76.5% gross margin in 2025.
How much cash does Xiaomi really make?
Free cash flow is cash from operations after capital spending, lease payments and interest paid. It fell in 2025 even as revenue and reported earnings rose. The free-cash-flow margin narrowed from 7.9% to 3.9%, so less of each sales yuan remained after the business funded itself.
Employee share pay adds another economic cost. It does not consume cash when recorded, but it compensates employees and can dilute shareholders. A specialist therefore keeps actual capital spending in free cash flow and considers stock compensation separately.
| 2025 | 2024 | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cash from operations | 34,142.377 | 39,295.499 | 41,300.495 | -4,389.73 | 9,785.288 |
| − Capital spending | 12,769.155 | 7,297.307 | 6,268.9 | 5,799.57 | 7,169.313 |
| − Interest paid | 774.76 | 717.223 | 758.137 | 1,020.229 | 659.987 |
| = Free cash flow | 17,695.958 | 28,804.445 | 33,075.766 | -12,491.314 | 840.129 |
| − Stock pay | 5,365.075 | 3,726.085 | 3,378.67 | 2,497.358 | 2,035.569 |
| = Real free cash flow | 12,330.883 | 25,078.36 | 29,697.096 | -14,988.672 | -1,195.44 |
What this means. Stock pay is not cash paid out today, but we subtract it because giving employees shares reduces each shareholder’s ownership.
What does an investor pay for Xiaomi today?
The P/E ratio compares a share price with annual earnings per share. A price of HK$26.38 divided by earnings of HK$1.46 produces a P/E of 18.1 times. P/E can rise even while a share falls if profit falls faster: Xiaomi earned about RMB2.5 billion in 2022, after RMB19.3 billion the year before.
| Today (Oct 14, 2026) | |
|---|---|
| Share price | 26.38 |
| P/E, last 12 months (calculated) | 18.1x |
| P/E, next 12 months (calculated) | 18.6x |
| Free cash flow yield (calculated) | 3.0% |
| Real free cash flow yield (calculated) | 2.1% |
What this means. The enterprise value is lower than the market value because the company has more cash and short-term investments than debt, so that cash is subtracted.
