Delta earnings: guidance and next results
Delta's next results are expected on January 12, 2027. Watch whether higher fares become durable cash while labor and legal risks remain manageable.
What has Delta guided for the year?
Management still promises profit, cash generation and lower debt, but fuel has sharply narrowed its margin for error. Delta’s October 9 outlook cut full-year adjusted earnings per share to $5.10–$5.60, from $6.50–$7.50. Adjusted earnings remove selected unusual items to show recurring performance; they are accounting profit, not cash in the bank.
Free cash flow asks what remains after operations and long-lived investment. Leverage compares debt with an earnings measure. That is why debt can fall while leverage worsens if fuel reduces earnings. Delta’s promises include $2.5 billion of free cash flow, $5 billion of capital spending and gross leverage of 2.2 times.

Did Delta keep its past promises?
Promises require a separate test. Adjusted earnings remove specified items from standard profit, while free cash flow is the cash left after running the business and making necessary investments. Delta forecast 2025 adjusted earnings above US$7.35 per share but delivered US$5.82. It later reduced its 2026 free-cash-flow outlook from US$3–4 billion to approximately US$2.5 billion, citing higher fuel costs.
What do Delta's last eight quarters show?
September 2026 showed strong revenue growth but weaker profit retention. Revenue reached $20,186 million. It was $16,673 million in the comparable quarter. Operating income fell to $1,454 million, while net income fell to $756 million.

What should I watch in Delta's next results?
The next evidence will show whether higher fares become durable cash while labor and legal risks remain manageable. The December 2026 quarter should reveal whether realized fuel prices and revenue per unit of capacity move together. Advance bookings provide cash early, but Delta still owes those customers a flight.
